About VIT
VIT has made a mark in the field of higher education in India by providing quality education on par with institutions of international standards in a cross- cultural ambience, VIT was formed in 1984 by Dr. G. Viswanathan, a former parliamentarian and Minister in the Tamil Nadu Government, as a self- financing institution called Vellore Engineering College. Since then, the Institution has grown from strength to strength. It was conferred Deemed to be University status in 2001 by MHRD. VIT currently offers UG, PG, and Research programmes on its four campuses at Vellore, Chennai, Bhopal, and Amaravati. Concept Note
Writing is considered the most challenging skill to achieve among the four macro skills, LSRW However, English writing skills. especially academic writing is essential for all professions and very necessary for higher. education. Excellent academic writing skills make the graduates employable and become skilled professionals who are industry-ready..
Designing impactful writing tusks and activities for day-to-day classroom teaching, internal assessment, and even the final summative exams help educators inculcate highly systematic, structured, and impactful academic writing capabilities. Multiple factors interplay in a complex manner in the design of academic writing tasks, activities. exercises, or questions. If they are used for instructional purposes, academic writing tasks can also be graded and closed-ended. where the learners have to complete a task to acquire a sub-skill of writing. For example. teachers can give paragraph reordering tasks to teach them the logical organization of a paragraph.
The present workshop will orient the participants to the importance of academic writing and various parameters to be considered while designing instructional or assessment tasks. Task designers and teachers must ensure that the writing task is designed to meet specific basic parameters along the lines of Bloom’s taxonomy. The concept of task based assessment, wash back effect of assessment, summative and formative ussessments will also be focused upon in the workshop.
